Can you relate?
My name is Sheila Storrer. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a parent coach. I have two teenagers – a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old.
So, I get it— the eye rolls, the mounds of clothes on the bedroom floors, how EVERYTHING we say or do is utterly uncool and embarrassing.
Gone are the days of snuggles, hanging out at the beach together and even getting a simple “Hello” at the end of the school day.
At first the new challenges I faced felt overwhelming and my old parenting skills weren’t making the cut --- try telling someone taller than you to take a “time out.”
Way Harder Than I Imagined!
This whole parenting teens thing was way harder than I imagined. I felt exhausted, anxious, shut out and quite frankly sad about the loss I felt. I found myself dropping everything when they wanted something simply because I was desperate for connection.
Something had to give or these were going to be some hard years for all of us.
Things Started to Turn Around
I set clearer boundaries and expectations. I said NO to unlimited screen time, NO to last minute rides, and NO to ditching our Sunday family dinners. And YES to quality time for my family and myself.
I researched the developmental changes teens are experiencing – physical, emotional, and social. This new information gave me a great sense of relief that my kids are developmentally right on track. I became more empathetic and tolerant of the changes they’re going through.
Because teens are in the midst of transitioning to adulthood and forming their own sense of identity, I gave them more age-appropriate independence and privacy. Underneath it all they are still terrific kids, and I do trust them to make good decisions.
I began to understand that we are all in the midst of a transition,
there was less arguing and things became a bit more peaceful at home.
Of course my teens continue to challenge the boundaries and expectations
I set, but now I have more tools and skills to manage our relationships.
I’ve learned how to hold firm.
A New Chapter
Today, I experience a greater sense of calm and have more energy to focus on my own future. I feel more confident about my parenting skills and less anxious and worried about my kids’ futures.
I started a new career that combines my 20+ years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a life coaching certificate from an ICF accredited program.
Now I teach parents like you what I’ve learned --- how to strengthen communication skills, modify parenting tools, and develop an understanding of your own needs as well as the unique developmental changes of your teens. The goal is to create more connection, foster trust, establish boundaries and have some fun.
takes patience, practice and understanding and I can support you as
you take on navigating and negotiating this challenging stage of parenting.
Introducing The Solution
A three month 1:1 coaching engagement to help you navigate this tricky/messy/challenging stage of parenting. Coaching sessions are by phone, making them convenient for busy parents.
Happy Parent|Happy Teen is a 5 step program.
STEP 1: Assessing the Relationship – Get it out there!
How great will it feel to finally say out loud what’s going on to someone who really gets it? We’ll take a look at the specific challenges you’re facing with your teen and how it’s impacting you and your family. We’ll assess your parenting style - what’s working and what’s not. We’ll talk about your teen’s strengths and challenges because not all kids need to be parented in the same way.
STEP 2: Understanding Your Teen – Their challenges are suddenly bigger and less in our control to fix.
Teens are going through tremendous developmental changes – physical, emotional and social. The more you understand, the easier it will be to tolerate some of their more annoying behaviors. This will enrich the relationship and you’ll be able to relax knowing that they most likely are right on track in transitioning to young adulthood.
STEP 3: Remembering Your Teen Years – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
You’ll find that taking a look at your own past will help you to better accept your teen unconditionally and modify your parenting for the better. Your empathy will increase by revisiting the struggles you may have faced during that time in your own life. And, by remembering the fun things you did, you’ll feel excited that it’s your teen’s turn.
STEP 4: Learning the Nuts and Bolts
This is where you learn the tools needed to effectively parent your teen as well as the skills you need to take care of yourself so that you have the emotional energy to stay in the game.
STEP 5: Making Plans for the Future
Together we will create a roadmap that will immediately change the quality
of your life for the better and change your relationship with your teen
at the same time. Less chaos. More joy. More fun. A stronger relationship
with your teen -- and yourself.

make some lasting changes to your family life. Sheila supported
me when I needed to have “courageous conversations”
around some tough issues with my kids. She taught me practical
tools that helped me to communicate with my kids. I continue to
use these skills daily in all areas of my life. She is empathetic,
genuine and always understood what I was going through. I can’t
thank her enough.
am grateful for Sheila Storrer. When we started our work together
I was completely stuck. Sheila, thoughtful and genuine, gently
but persistently helped me find my own answers to my life questions.
Perfectly present, she has an insight and intuition that helped
me tap into my own power and strength, step by step. She truly
connects with her clients, and her brilliant sense of humor makes
this serious work fun. I’m now in a different place in my
life, enrolled in a program working towards a new career, and
so thankful for a brand new attitude.
